Salma, born and raised in Morocco, has a background in science where she studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Wanting to express her creativity, Salma decided to pursue a bachelor in industrial design at the University of Montreal. There, she learned how to build strong research skills around a user’s needs before coming up with a design solution. Salma has previous experience working for numerous design studios, providing her with exposure to fields such as footwear, graphic design, and installations for high-end hotels. She finds inspiration in both fashion and nature, but mostly in people and their cultures. She believes that creativity is easily fed in culturally rich and diverse communities. Living in Toronto, a multicultural city, allows her to learn something new every day, and in turn, informs her design practice. Outside of Umbra, Salma enjoys cooking, discovering local restaurants and playing tennis.
