Karim Rashid is an Industrial Designer and cultural shaper. His perspective and clients are global and he considers himself a cultural shaper doing projects ranging from products, interiors, fashion, furniture, lighting, to art and music.

He received a bachelor of Industrial Design in Ottawa, Canada and Postgraduate studies in Italy in 1984. He worked at Rodolfo Bonetto’s studio in Milan for one year then for 7 years at KAN Design in Toronto. In 1993 he opened his own studio in New York City with clients such as Umbra, Nambe, Magis, Edra, Prada, Cappellini, Frighetto, Bonaldo, Mikasa, Sony, Target, Artemide, Issey Miyake, Davidoff, Giorgio Armani, Kenzo, Toyota, Copco, Yahoo, Alessi, Tonelli, Zeritalia among others.

He designed the famous Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia, just completed the Semiramis hotel in Athens and Nooch in NYC. He is working on hotels, restaurants, and shops in London, Moscow, New York, Dallas, and Turkey. Presently he is working in 23 countries. He has won numerous awards and his work is in permanent collections of 14 Museums. He has over 2000 objects on the market. He exhibits art at Sandra Gering and Deitch Projects in New York. He has a monograph called ‘I Want to Change the World‘ (Rizzoli, 2001), editor of the International Design Yearbook 2003 (Calmann King), a mini portfolio book published by Chronicle books (2004), and his second monograph called Evolution ((Rizzoli, 2004), and Digipop (Taschen 2005).

The Karim Rashid flagship shop just opened in NYC 2005.
